Northstar, the region’s newest bus operator, has completed its first contract for Nexus.
Buses replaced trains between Heworth and South Gosforth all weekend, 29 March to 1 April, while the second phase of a £3.4m track junction renewal project was completed in the Metro’s city centre tunnels under Newcastle.
During the four-day closure, the replacement bus service number 900 ran between Heworth and South Gosforth in both directions.
Northstar was invited to run the replacement bus service alongside other bus operators in the region as its first contract following the company’s inception.
Daniel Graham, Managing Director for Northstar, commented: “We have a vast amount of experience in running rail replacement and special events transport.
“We were thrilled to be invited by Nexus to undertake some duties for the Tyne & Wear Metro replacement bus service.
“Thousands of customers travelled with us during the four-day closure, many commenting on how clean, warm and comfortable our bus was.”
The company is actively pursuing opportunities for further rail replacement contracts.
